A behatárolt mozgástérben a mezőgazdaságból származó jövedelmek reálértéke – szintén túlzott ágazati aránytalanságokkal – legfeljebb a 2006. |

The health of the ocean, central to human well-being, has now reached a critical point. Most fish stocks are overexploited, climate change and increased dissolved carbon dioxide are changing ocean chemistry and disrupting species throughout food webs, and the fundamental capacity of the ocean to regulate the climate has been altered. However, key technical, organizational, and conceptual scientific barriers have prevented the identification of policy levers for sustainability and transformative action. Here, we recommend key strategies to address these challenges, including (1) stronger integration of sciences and (2) ocean-observing systems, (3) improved science-policy interfaces, (4) new partnerships supported by (5) a new ocean-climate finance system,... |

Based on the Policy Analysis Matrix (PAM) approach this paper provides an assessment of the competitive position of the Hungarian agro-food industry in view of EU integration. The situation in the food processing sector is assessed with the use of actual cost data from representative Hungarian companies. The paper presents an assessment of the current situation prior to EU integration as well as a future outlook under various scenarios with regard to the expected policy environment and the rate of technological change. The actual measurement of competitiveness in this study focuses mainly on Private Resource Cost (PRC) which indicates competitiveness under real market conditions and Domestic Resource Cost (DRC) which gives an assessment on the social or... |

Recently, an approach for global sustainability, the planetary-boundary approach (PBA), has been proposed, which combines the concept of tipping points with global-scale sustainability indicators. The PBA could represent a significant step forward in monitoring and managing known and suspected global sustainability criteria. However, as the authors of the PBA describe, the approach faces numerous and fundamental challenges that must be addressed, including successful identification of key global sustainability metrics and their tipping points, as well as the coordination of systemic individual and institutional actions that are required to address the sustainability challenges highlighted. We apply a previously published framework for systematic and... |

This piece of study puts forward an analysis on the repoduction of family-agriculturists by means of the similar evidences found in two rural communities. Both the productive and the reproductive processes are simultaneous, and the continuous re-conversion of part of the production into new means re-creates the social and cultural conditions for the agriculturists' existence. The reproductive effort comes to the fore when one observes how family work is organized, how its successor is elected, how the estate growth occurs, and how they get to new agricultural or non-agricultural activities which will lead them to a financial improvement. This work starts off by presenting the theorical and book references used in the analisys of the studied problem. Later... |

The objective of this work is to verify the interest, among the farmers from the fruit and vegetable production units of the 4th Colony micro region in the state of Rio Grande do Sul, in participating in associations or cooperatives, which would allow them to participate in the increasingly competitive markets. A structured questionnaire, built in Likert scale, was applied through interviews to all the producers of the districts that best represented the socioeconomic and environmental conditions of the studied micro region. The data were treated with factorial analysis, descriptive statistics and rank tests. A pre-disposition to create company associations was observed among most of the producers; nevertheless, some important elements (for instance... |

The influence of a peripheral cue represented by a gray ring on responsivity to a subsequent target varies. When a vertical line inside a ring was a go target and a white small ring inside a ring was a no-go target, reaction time was shorter at the same location relative to a different location. However, no reaction time difference between the two locations occurred when a white cross inside the ring, instead of the white vertical line inside the ring, was the go target. We investigated whether this last finding was due to a forward masking influence of the cue, a requirement of low attention for the discrimination or a lack of attention mobilization by the cue. In Experiment 1, the intensity of the cue was reduced in an attempt to reduce forward masking.... |

The "concept of the co-operative identity" (consisting from the definition, aims and functions of cooperatives and the so-termed co-operative principles) serves as a general theoretical background for the economic analysis of agricultural co-operation. The development of Dutch dairy co-operatives is used as a case study example, which suitably illustrates and represents the processes taking place in the European Union. Some suggestions for further research on the co-operative identity according to each country and different branches and sectors in order to see the substance of co-operation from different economic and non-economic aspects are proposed. |

Farmers’ problems and co-ordination of agricultural activities cannot be solved simply by EU and/or government support, or by private market co-ordination institutions. Emerging producer groups and co-operatives seem vital in achieving bargaining power. Theoretically, and according to Western European (Dutch, Danish etc.) and US practical experience, one of the major important private institutions that can strengthen producers and help co-ordinate (agricultural) chains is the co-operative entity. To fulfill the basic co-operative aims and to compete in a more market-oriented environment (e.g. more liberal agricultural policies, opening European and world market, etc.) they will initiate new marketing strategies. To implement such new marketing strategies,... |

Welch Foods saw its purpose as building long-term value in the cooperative and releasing that value back to the grower-owners over time and to provide a reliable market for their grapes through excellence in product quality, customer service, market responsiveness and consumer satisfaction. Welch's processed 50 percent of Concord grapes and 80 percent of Niagara grapes produced in the United States into juices, jellies, jams and other products. The objective of this executive interview is to introduce Dan Dillon and Welch Foods and describe challenges faced by a producer-owned cooperative in the 21st century. The interview was conducted at the 2003 Farmer Cooperatives program in Kansas City. |

We sampled fish and measured environmental variables in the Sepetiba Bay, a tropical embayment at Southeastern Brazil. The aim was to assess environmental influences on distribution of four abundant species of Sciaenidae Micropogonias furnieri (Desmarest, 1823), Ctenosciaena gracilicirrhus (Metzelaar, 1919), Cynoscion leiarchus (Cuvier, 1830) and Menticirrhus americanus (Linnaeus, 1758) to test the habitat partition hypothesis. Samples were taken between June 1993 and July 1996, at three bay zones (outer, central and inner). Depth was the most important environmental variable to influence fish distribution, followed by transparency. M. furnieri showed significant negative correlation to depth, transparency and salinity, while C. gracilicirrhus showed the... |

In case of company agrarian of size medium and small, that it is the one that mainly predominates in Colombia, is appraised a short term decision making that does not correspond to a systemic process that assures the sustainability in the time. In the evaluation of the management the use of indicators of technical type predominates and without Strategy-Focused Organization. A generic example with the Balanced Scorecard methodology appears in this work for the formulation of the strategy in horticulture companies, of such form, that it allows to evaluate the global performance based on the processes characteristic of these, but that of a form simple and nearer the language of the small ones and medium producers offers a tool to them that supports its... |
